Rooftops
Storm The Beaches

Rooftops, Storm the Beaches

There is a band out there that you are probably not listening to, but you really should be. Well, there are probably a lot of bands out there you should be listening to but probably are not, this band is just one in particular. What band am I talking about? I’m glad you asked. Storm the Beaches is the name, and they are sure to take the music world by storm. Yes, the bad pun was very much intended. STB hails from Baltimore, Maryland. The land of the guy who started Abercrombie and Fitch, Edward Norton, Edgar Allan Poe, the hunky Dan Humphrey from Gossip Girl, Hairspray! And All Time Low (yeah, technically they are from Towson, but that defeats the purpose of this list.) Lots of fame has come out of Baltimore (seriously check the wikipedia page “famous people from Baltimore,” there are a ton) and after listening to STB’s debut six track EP “Gifts from the Sea” you can tell they will be no different from those before them.
The EP opens with “Rooftops” which, personally, is my favourite song off the EP. STB are a group of four attractive guys singing indie pop-rock music, like most bands these days, but they strike a different chord. When you listen to the lyrics of “Rooftops” it is hard to imagine that the minds behind the words are all under the age of 23. Lead singer Mark Mikina’s voice also has a unique sound. His voice resonates with maturity that music of the same genre lacked for a while, but is starting to bring back. Storm the Beaches originated from two bands, combining forces to really define a new sound, is that some bluegrass I hear? Why yes, yes it is. “Rooftops” is not the only memorable track on the EP, in fact, they are all amazing songs; it has been out for two and a half months now and I can still listen to it on repeat and be just as amazed by it as I was the first time I heard it.
Everyone loves being able to say “Oh you like [insert name of new super popular band here]? I have been listening to them forever.” And Storm the Beaches is definitely worth the bragging rights. So get the EP, sit down, listen to it all the way through, and prepare to be amazed. You can check them out on MySpace at www.myspace.com/stormthebeaches and on twitter.
