You've Got The Love
Florence + The Machine
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: FLORENCE + THE MACHINE From the UK to your ears, Florence + the machine has “got the love to see you through”. The lead singer, Florence Welch, is from London, England. Her tunes have traveled across the seas to enchant you with a dark, soulful, and fun mood. With only one album out, she has made quite the sensation in both the UK and the states. Lungs was released July 6th, 2009 and at the 2010 BRIT Awards, it won the “Mastercard British Album” award. Her single for the album (“Kiss with a Fist”)was featured on the soundtrack of the film Jennifer’s body starring Megan Fox. One of her newer songs will also be featured in the upcoming movie for the Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Florence has made a name for herself in the UK and is attending several upcoming festivals in places such as Ireland, Scotland, Denmark, and England. Some of these festivals are also featuring artists such as Eminem, Vampire Weekend, Paolo Nutini, La Roux, John Mayer, Wolfmother and Muse. So if you’re in that area (or visiting), check out the festival and Florence! Information on her touring can be found on her site http://www.florenceandthemachine.net/index . Her success was almost instant and definitely fitting for her talent. Her lyrics are chilling and her voice fits them perfectly. One of my favorite lyrics is “No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world” featured in her single, “Blinding”. Her song “Bird Song” is a tale about a troublesome bird that haunts her. The feeling of guilt is very familiar to all of us, and this song has a very creative way of depicting it. The song holds a similar message as Edgar Allen’s story, “Tell Tale Heart”. Dark and somewhat frightening, this song also has a great beat that is very likable. Each song has it’s own story making the album well worth a listen. It exposes fans to lessons about life while being musically soothing as well. There is no reason why anyone shouldn’t be listening to this album. The album will fill your heart with laughter, darkness, creativity, and so much more. Let Florence take you deep into a different world, a world where anything and everything is possible, just with the mere sound of her voice. Beware of the birds, rabbit hearts, owls and ghosts! Check it out immediately and fall in love with Florence’s voice and talent! Recommended for fans of: Regina Spektor, Metric, Ellie Goulding, Kate Nash and Lykke Li. Recommended songs for Florence + The Machine virgins: “Bird Song”, “Dog Days are Over”, “Falling”, “Blinding”, and “You’ve got the love” (but really just listen to the entire album :D ) And my running feet could fly Each breath screaming “We are all too young to die”
“Sometimes I wish for falling Wish for the release Wish for falling through the air To give me some relief Because falling’s not the problem When I’m falling I’m at peace” - Sara Azoulay
