This or the Apocalypse Interview

Sara: First can you introduce yourself and say what you do in the band?
Ricky:  Hey. I’m Ricky. I post on our facebook and do the interviews. Oh and I do vocals.

S: How would you explain your music to somebody who’s never heard your band before?
R: We’re one of those loud bands that yell at people but we do it for a reason and care about the words we yell at people. We yell because we care.

S: How did you get into the kind of music that you play?
R: I couldn’t sing and it was my only way to sing for a band.  Actually, I just really like bands that are passionate about what they do and not afraid to say what they feel. Heavy music is a culture that can really be a “sky is the limit” place if you let it be, it’s not just a collection of songs that make people look at you weird when you blast them in your car with the windows down.

S: Being the vocalist of a metal band, how did you discover you could sing, or as most people call it, scream, in the way necessary to make this kind of music?
R: I just sort of tried it one day and my friend Trevor said I sounded like a crazy person. I dug it.

S: Are your parents behind your decision to pursue music?
R: It took the better part of 4 years of doing music to get them on board but they’ve been right behind me and probably my biggest driving force for the last 3 years. I love them.

S: Did you ever go to a concert when you were younger that made you want to be able to play music for a living? (Was there a certain show that lit the spark?)
R: Shai Hulud/Hopesfall at the Chameleon in Lancaster , PA. Kind of my genesis, I guess you could say.

S:  When it comes to making a new record, do you enjoy writing or recording for it more?
R: Writing. I hate recording. So much pressure.

S: What has been your favorite tour you have been on thus far?
R: We Came As Romans/Miss May I/Word Alive/Us in Europe .  First time in Europe and it was just a blast.

S: What is your favorite part of being in a touring band?
R: Living life on the outside, looking in. Like the Staind song, baby.

S: Is there anything else you would like to add or say?
R: Jump off stages. Thanks for the interview.

Be sure to check out This or the Apocalypse on tour this summer with Impending Doom and Mychildren Mybride.
